![]() ![]() Some characters like Yugo can combo into their super, while Gado’s is telegraphed, and Long’s is something of a parry. Because the characters all have different fighting styles and different beast modes, their super moves are different as well. Once the beast gauge is depleted it can be refilled by inflicting damage as well as taking it. There is a risk versus reward system here because whether your attack hits or not, it will empty the beast gauge completely. This move can change the ebb and flow of battle in an instant so if you use your super move you better make sure it hits. While in beast mode you can also unleash a super move which will inflict massive damage (50% every-time) on your opponent. Offensive and defensive attributes increase, health regenerates, and every character gains additional moves and combos that can only be done in their transformed state. In Bloody Roar 2 however, the cast is more than capable of holding their own even in their human forms and become absolute BEASTS when they transform no pun intended. In the original Bloody Roar, the character’s human forms weren’t that effective and so it came down to players only trying to build their beast gauge so they could transform and really get down to the grit. Bloody Roar 2 continues this trend but also build upon it. Because your fighters are zoanthropes, they can transform into werebeasts during combat and everyone transforms into a different animal-human hybrid which provides different benefits during combat and even changes the way some characters play on the fly. The gimmick in Bloody Roar revolves around the Beast Mode. ![]() The characters Beast Modes play a larger role in the gameplay this time around as well. Some of these characters might sound like palette swaps but they all play a bit differently from their core construction as well as each other. This game features a younger, faster, shinobi named Bakuryu who shares the codename and beast mode of the original. Fan favorites like Yugo, Long, and Gado are among the returning characters but they all have different roles in this game. Mitsuko and Greg for example, while absent have had their moves integrated into Stun’s move list, and Fox’s move set went to Jenny. ![]() Nearly every character from the first game returns in some form or another even if at times their move lists go into a new character. Uriko has mellowed out since being the first games antagonist. Back in its heyday Bloody Roar had a cult following and Bloody Roar 2 builds upon its predecessor in every way a sequel should. Yet Bloody Roar still found an audience thanks to its fast-paced combat, transformation gimmick, and for being one of the few fighting games whose story didn’t revolve around a fighting tournament. It received little in the way of marketing and was released at a time where Tekken, Dead or Alive, and Soul Blade (Soul Edge in Japan) had gobbled up a large portion of the fighting game market. But against an army of zoanthropes, can they really make a difference?Ĭalled Beastorizer in Japan, the first Bloody Roar, while not a record-breaking success, was a sleeper hit. Once again, our heroes from the first Bloody Roar must rise up and stop the ZLF once and for all. ![]() In reality however, what they really want is zoanthrope superiority and it doesn’t take long before the ZLF starts committing acts of violence against not only humans but zoanthropes who advocate peace or neutrality. At this time the Zoanthrope Liberation Front (ZLF) appears on the scene and promises to fight for zoanthrope equality. Violence breaks out between humans and zoanthropes, and world governments struggle to maintain order. However, in doing so the zoanthropes have revealed their existence to the world at large and the globe is thrown into panic. Tylon begins kidnapping these zoanthropes and uses them in experiments to create the next generation of bio-weapons, but a small group of zoanthropes manages to destroy the corporation and attain their freedom. A shadowy corporation known as Tylon learns of these people and classify them as zoanthropes. In the near future, a small number of humans have reached the next level of evolution due to a mutation in their genetic makeup which allows them to transform into werebeasts. Gado The Lion and yes, he’s every bit as BADASS as he looks.Ĭreated by Japanese developer Eighting/Raizing and published by Hudson Soft, Bloody Roar 2 is a fighting game released for the Playstation in 1999. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The plot takes its time to develop, but when it does it’s a great one! The characters do on the other hand not take long to feel attachment to. The plot is interesting, got exciting revelations - but it can be draggy. Its vast focus on this is a major plus - but can, for some, be its greatest “meh-factor”. Characters come alive in this 1700s - they give you this inside to how it was to live in this, to us - strange world. History comes real and it feels like a totally different world. It’s a beautifully directed show that’s highly realistic due to its big focus on history and location shooting. It’s based on the ‘Outlander series’ written by Diana Gabaldon, and strictly follows the books - and doesn’t take any wild turns from its source material. A more romantic & science fiction-ish journey into the earlier Scotland - a voyage with a brand new take on love, attachment & the past. It’s based on the ‘Outlander series’ written by Diana Gabaldon, and strictly follows the books - and Prepare for an accurate perspective on history. Prepare for an accurate perspective on history. Outlander is an emotionally charged and riveting new show, arguably one of the best that came out this year. It got so disturbing but the way it was edited made it bearable. Not having any spoilers from the books I thought I was imaging Jack Randall's proclivities but I wasn’t! It made the show all the more sweater because the creative team was not afraid to get into the sadism, get gritty, and graphic. Outlander was a little bit all over the place when it came to categorize it, it was a bit sappy, cheesy but it also got dark, I mean really DARK, which was a direction I didn’t exactly expect. I was giddy and excited to watch the show. The further we went with the show, the more riveting, and beautiful Outlander was. Jack Randall is amazing, powerful, which is even more impressive when you compare the actor’s performance as Clair’s husband in 1945. Claire strong, pigheaded AND annoying at times. I don't know if the flashbacks would have made any sense if they hadn't spent a good portion of the pilot in 45. The pilot's development on Claire's life in 1945 made even more sense once they started to use flashbacks. "When you eliminate the impossible whatever remain, however improbable, must be the truth." a quote that many of you have heard in Sherlock. The show is full of little references, I did not expect to find e.g. It also made boring shots (people walking around, landscape shots - however beautiful they were) more interesting. It was on point, adding to the information that the images and/or the great performances were giving. The voice over stayed throughout the season but I didn't mind it. I felt like with each episodes I learned a little bit more about Scottish culture. The slow pace the show took created a solid base to amp up the drama, relate to the characters, and set up the era. The characters and the plots are slowly introduced and developed that they quickly feel real. The pilot set everything up nicely, at least the first part of things, we got to know Claire's life in 1945 before diving deep in 1743's Scotland. The theme song is just wonderful and intoxicating, a great choice for the show that it is. Thank goodness I was bored enough one day to check it out. ![]() The premise desn’t sound like much but it’s a good show. The pilot set everything up nicely, at least the first I am impressed with this show. ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s all no more challenging to the viewer (or their storyteller) than the background details provided by M in James Bond flicks. Essentially Indiana Jones if Harrison Ford never took off the tweed jacket, Langdon is an expert in the real world field of art history and the fictional one of symbology, and his monologues give the proceedings a nice bit of pseudo-intellectual window-dressing. It’s about secret societies, dastardly supervillains, and a matinee idol for the academia set named Robert Langdon. Written on the page by Brown like any other airplane-ready page-turner, with nearly each short chapter ending to the implicit musical sting of “dun-dun-DUN!,” the book is a pleasantly conceived time-filler. To be sure, The Da Vinci Code is still a ludicrous story that both benefited from and was weighed down by the sensationalism of its conceit. ![]() And judging by the infamous catcalls the movie received at Cannes, which were followed by a tepid critical drubbing in the international press, I wasn’t alone in thinking the movie amounted to a lot of overinflated hoopla.īut a funny thing happened when I sat down to watch it on Netflix the other day, about 15 years after its release: I realized what a big goofy delight the movie could be with the right mindset, and what I as a teenager-and so much of the contemporary film press during its time-missed out on. One that features Tom Hanks earnestly looking into the camera to declare “I need to get to a library!” as the music swells. And all of that cacophonous noise was over… a pretty middle-of-the-road adventure movie. ![]() Protests occurred at theaters throughout the U.S., while other international markets banned it outright. How could something that high-handed live up to that kind of hype?Īs a splashy Hollywood version of Dan Brown’s most popular potboiler, The Da Vinci Code premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and was the subject of countless faux-examinations about early Christianity on the cable news circuit-as well as the object of ire for some modern Christians’ growing need for perpetual outrage. All the while, its rollout suggested it had aspirations to be an awards contender. It was an adaptation of the biggest literary phenomenon of the decade not starring Harry Potter, and it was arriving in cinemas with the kind of media frenzy usually reserved for Star Wars. When Ron Howard’s The Da Vinci Code took the world by storm in 2006, I was far from being a professional critic, but I could still be highly critical of something like this. ![]() ![]() ![]() In the event of a tie, the tied players had to give the same number of answers. The second-fastest provided one of the remaining answers, and finally the slowest player got whatever was left, by default. The first person to ring in was permitted to provide any one of the three answers. Some questions took a form such as "Name the three films for which Katharine Hepburn won the Oscar for Best Actress." For most questions, three words, names, or phrases were displayed on a board which acted as clues, and the question took a form such as "Pick a word from the board and give its plural."
